The GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 TUF and ROG Strix variants from ASUS improved thermal design and lighting. The top-tier Strix GeForce RTX 4090 has a 357mm long and 3.5-slot wide design, and its frame, shroud, and backplate are made of die-cast metal. Milled channels have been incorporated beneath the heat pipes as part of a redesign of the vapor chamber.

The GeForce RTX 4090 from TUF Gaming is shorter and fatter. The TUF model is slightly faster (348 mm) and thicker (3.65 slots) than its ROG sibling for wider case compatibility. A die-cast unibody shroud safeguards the PCB that mates directly to an aluminum backplate, strengthening the overall construction. More air can pass through the more giant Axial-tech fans’ fins thanks to a large vent at the edge of the backplate, which provides 20% more airflow than the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Ti from the previous generation.

The TUF’s cooling system has been updated by ASUS, just like the Strix, with a new vapor chamber. The eight heat pipes—five 8 mm and three 6 mm—offer 35% more contact area than the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, despite not using the same milled design as its Strix sibling. With capacitors rated for 20K and various high-current power stages arranged in a 10+4 configuration, the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 makes use of the new 16-pin power connector introduced by the PCIe 5.0 standard.

The four 8 mm and three 6 mm heat pipes and the heatsink fins can transfer heat more effectively because the pipes sink into the vapor chamber rather than lying flat against the surface. This powerful combination allows for five °C lower temperatures than a typical vapor chamber design when subjected to a 500-watt thermal load.

Additionally, ASUS has improved the fans with a thicker design with seven blades and full barrier rings, resulting in a 23.8% increase in airflow and a 19.3% increase in pressure over the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 models. The power delivery system has been expanded to a 12+4 phase with 70-amp power stages. The total number of phases is 24+4, with two power stages per phase.

The Strix RTX 4080 has a 357mm length and 3.5-slot cooler design, just like its elder sibling. It also uses a modernized vapor chamber with enormous axial fans and milled channels to give the heat pipes more contact. Additionally, dual-BIOS support is provided, allowing for silent 0dB operation and advanced overclocking capabilities. The 3.15 slots thick and 336 mm long 12GB version is a little more compact. There are no differences from the 16GB version’s capabilities or features.

The 16GB version of the RTX 4080 keeps the same appearance as the TUF RTX 4090, just like the Strix. However, the 12GB model suffers from a few sporadic cuts: a horizontal heatsink with a slightly thicker but shorter form. It’s 305mm long and 3.25 slot wide, making it perfect for smaller builds. The unibody die-cast shroud is structurally similar to its larger cousins. A large vent on the backplate enhances airflow. The Dual BIOS switch, military-grade capacitors, and a 10+4 phase power delivery are additional features of the 12 GB TUF card.
